<p>A hinge, eg for a door, comprises a housing 1 pivotally connected to a fixture by a coupling which includes a linkage 4. A shuttle 7 is located in a bore 27 and comprises an internal cavity filled with fluid. A non-moveable baffle 13 located in the bore to divide the cavity into first and second chambers 16, 17. A first passageway, which may include a one-way ball valve 21, communicates between the chambers so that fluid may pass in one direction between the first and second chambers. A return passageway 15 provides a restricted flow of fluid between the second and first chambers during movement of the hinge from an open to a closed position. Additional passageways 18, 19 may connect chambers 16, 17 via an adjustable valve. A stop arrangement may be included to hold the hinge open at a predetermined position. The hinge may also include a closing and alignment mechanisms.</p> |
