The present invention relates to a slot die coating apparatus and a control method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the slot die coating apparatus includes: a slot die which coats an ink onto a substrate to execute a coating process; an image recording unit which is arranged near the slot die to record the state of the slot die and the state of the ink being coated onto the substrate while the coating process is carried out; and a control unit which controls the operation of the slot die according to the comparison result of an image recorded through the image recording unit and a reference image. The slot die includes: a first body which has a cavity storing the ink supplied from the outside; a second body which is arranged to be spaced apart from the first body; and a shim plate which is coupled between the first body and the second body, has a discharging opening connected to the cavity to discharge the ink stored in the cavity, and has at least one protrusion unit exposed to the outside of the first body and the second body. The control unit sets the reference image based on the protrusion unit and compares the image recorded through the image recording unit and the reference image.
