The present invention provides novel compounds useful as proteasome inhibitors. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds of the invention and methods of using the compositions in the treatment of various diseases.

A method for inhibiting proteasome activity comprising administrating to a patient in need of such inhibition a compound of formula (I), or a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (I)or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a boronic acid anhydride thereof, wherein Ring A is selected from the group consisting ofandZ1 and Z2 are each hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, or aralkoxy, or Z1 and Z2 together form a moiety derived from a boronic acid complexing agent.
