This printer (11) is provided with: a first housing section (23) that houses a first paper roll (21) around which paper (P1) has been coiled; a second housing section (24) that houses a second paper roll (22) around which paper (P2) has been coiled; a printing unit (12) that prints to the paper (P1) and paper (P2); a conveyance unit (14) that has a sandwiching unit (19) that can sandwich together the paper (P1) and paper (P2) in an overlapping state having been pulled out respectively from the first paper roll (21) and second paper roll (22), and conveys to the printing unit (12) the paper (P1) among the paper (P1) and paper (P2) sandwiched by the sandwiching unit (19); a paper sensor (S1) that detects the presence of the paper (P1); and a control unit (50) that, when the paper (P1) to be conveyed to the printing unit (12) is detected to be absent by the paper sensor (S1), operates the conveyance unit (14) to convey the paper (P2) sandwiched by the sandwiching unit (19) to the printing unit (12).
