The present disclosure is directed towards a method and a system for monitoring the performance of an electrochemical cell stack (100) such as an electrochemical hydrogen compressor. Monitoring can be performed remotely by measuring the voltage for delivering a given current across the stack or by performing a linear current sweep and measuring the resulting voltage. In the latter case, a slope of the resulting V-l curve is determined and compared with an initially recorded slope at the beginning of life (BOL) of the cell system. Comparing the values serves for determining the condition of the stack, i.e. the performance decay, which in turn enables preemptive repair of the stack prior to failure. |
