PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to ensure running stability of an intermediate transfer belt and to prevent transfer failure of a toner image to be transferred to the intermediate transfer belt, and an image forming method.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a plurality of photoreceptor drums 311-341 for carrying toner images of different colors; an intermediate transfer belt 36; a plurality of primary transfer rollers 314-344; a printing control section which executes print processing in first printing mode or second printing mode set in advance; and a contact pressure control section which controls contact pressure between the intermediate transfer belt 36 and the primary transfer rollers 324-334 located downstream in a conveyance direction 36A of the intermediate transfer belt 36 to be made lower in the first printing mode than in the second printing mode. |
