1,079,811. Making profiled bars; swaging; planing; rolling. SMERALOVY ZAVODY NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 14, 1965 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 1613/65. Headings B3A, B3H, B3L and B3M. A precision profiled bar from which small toothed pinions may be cut is made by radially pressing wire or bar stock to the approximate outline of the required profile, radially pressing to a more precise form of the profile, calibrating by rolling by form discs, shaping the outer periphery of the profile by passing it through a cutting die, and separating a required length of the profiled bar from the wire stock. The pressing operations are performed by a set of rough-pressing jaws 8 and a set of finish pressing jaws 9, each set being accommodated in a conical recess in a cylinder 4. The jaws abut against centring bushes 5, and horizontal movement of the cylinders 4 causes radial movement of the pressing jaws. The cylinders 4 are moved horizontally by the vertical movement of a wedge-shaped drive member 2 which is depressed by a press slide (not shown). Springs 18, 19, 20, 22 return the various parts to their initial positions when the press slide is retracted. Movement of the press slide also causes horizontal movement of a carrier 21 by means of a linkage (not shown) Mounted on the carrier 21 are the calibrating discs 10 and the cutting die 16 which cuts a layer from the periphery of the profile. Movement of the carrier 21 in the direction opposite to the arrow S causes the bar to be rolled and trimmed by the die 16, movement of the wire stock with respect to the pressing assembly 1 being prevented by a retaining collet (not shown), and movement of the carrier in the direction of the arrow S causes the wire stock to be fed into the machine. The machine is lubricated with thin oil. |
