A power transmission device which is provided with: a first shaft that can be connected to the engine and is provided with a first drive gear and a second drive gear adjacent to each other; a coaxial shaft that is coaxial with the first shaft and rotatable independently of the first shaft; a second shaft that is provided with a gear for accelerating the rotation of the first shaft and transmitting the rotation to the coaxial shaft; a generator that is disposed between the first and second drive gears and the engine and coupled to the coaxial shaft; a first driven gear that engages the first drive gear and provides a first gear ratio; a second driven gear that engages the second drive gear and provides a second gear ratio, the second driven gear being coaxial with and axially adjacent to the first driven gear; a third shaft that is coaxial with the first driven gear and the second driven gear and connected to external axles; and a clutch mechanism that is configured to selectively connect the first and second driven gears to the third shaft or selectively disconnect the first and second driven gears from the third shaft.
