PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insufflating surgical instrument adapted for movement across an abdominal wall to insufflate an abdominal region of a patient.SOLUTION: The insufflating surgical instrument comprises: a cannula having a first wall forming a first lumen; and a trocar 30 insertable into and removable from the first lumen of the cannula. The trocar comprises: a shaft 34 having a second wall forming a second lumen extending between a proximal end and a distal end, configured to receive a laparoscope which is inserted into the second lumen at the proximal end, comprising a gas channel extending along the length of the shaft 34, and comprising at least one shaft vent hole 36 formed across the second wall; a tip 32 disposed at the distal end of the shaft, encasing the distal end of the shaft such that the surgical instrument does not pass through the distal end of the shaft, and formed of a transparent material to enable visual recognition of the abdominal wall and abdominal region; and a vent hole formed at the tip 32 to inject a pressurized fluid to insufflate the abdominal region. |
