[Also, in Divisions C2, C3 and Dl] A fire-,retardant coating composition comprises (a) bituminous ,material and ,(b) the Diets-Alder adduct of a nonconjugated unsaturated fatty ester and a polyhalogenated cyclopentadiene . where X=F, Cl, or Br, and Y=F, Cl, Br or alkoxy, the adduct containing 10-50 wt. % halogen. The proportion of (b) may be 2.5- 50 wt. % based on (a). Also present may be 2.5-20 wt. %, based on (a) of a compound of Sb, Bi, or As, e.g. lead arsenate, the oxides or sulphides of Sb or As, Na or K antimonites, Sb (III) or Sb (V) salts of organic acids or their derivatives, esters of Sb (III) or Sb (V) acids or their derivatives, or cyclic organic antimonites. (a) may contain fibres, eg asbestos, or silica, limestone, slate dust, clay, black or coloured pigments, CaCOg, or halogenated wax products. The composition may be used for coating, e.g. shingles, paper, electrical insulation, cords, ropes, wallboard, insulating board, pipe, and asphalt mastic, and may contain a volatile solvent, e.g. mineral .spirit, kerosene, or halogenated hydrocarbon, the ,latter being non-flammable and prevents or inhibits ignition of the coating composition during application.</p> |
