A liquid crystal display device (1) is provided with a liquid crystal panel (10), a front face protective plate (12), and an optical path changing part (13). The liquid crystal panel (10) has a planar display surface (41) on which a plurality of pixels are disposed. The front face protective plate (12) is disposed facing the display surface (41) of the liquid crystal panel (10). The optical path changing part (13) is disposed in the space from an emitting surface (12a) of the front face protective plate (12) to an air layer (16) which is the closest thereto and is positioned more toward a rear face side than the emitting surface (12a). The optical path changing part (13) changes the optical path of light that enters the optical path changing part (13) so that the emission angle of the light when emitted from the emitting surface (12a) of the front face protective plate (12) widens. Thereby, a viewer can visually recognize an image from a wider angular direction.
