A method for combining postal objects (11) with mail items (2) which have been sorted in a machine (1) for delivery according to the postman's delivery round, comprising the following steps: - inputting into the sorting machine data representative of the delivery addresses of the postal objects that are to be combined, simulating within the sorting machine an ordered sequence of mail items for delivery according to the postman's delivery round and determining within this simulated sequence respective locations for said postal objects to be combined on the basis of said data, - in the sorting outputs of the machine, sorting said mail items for delivery according to the postman's delivery round and during the machine sorting of each mail item detecting whether this mail item is a mail item adjacent to a postal object that is to be combined in said simulated sequence, - and, in response to said detection, inserting into the sorting machine an insert (10) for automatically directing it toward a sorting output of the machine that corresponds to the delivery address of said postal object. |
