Provided is a power conversion apparatus that is able to receive the benefits of the advantages of short-circuiting, while preventing malfunctioning due to short-circuiting to be executed during AC-DC conversion. The power conversion apparatus is provided with a bridge circuit between DC power supply lines and AC power supply lines, and has two operation modes, a DC-AC conversion mode in which DC-AC conversion from the DC power-supply line side to the AC power-supply line side is executed using the bridge circuit, and an AC-DC conversion mode in which AC-DC conversion from the AC power-supply line side to the DC power-supply line side is executed using the bridge circuit. The power conversion apparatus is also provided with: a power-supply line short-circuiting circuit that is installed between the AC power supply lines, and executes short circuiting of the AC power supply lines; an operation mode switching unit that switches between the two operation modes; and a short-circuiting prohibition unit that prohibits short-circuiting from being executed when the mode is in the AC-DC conversion mode. |
