PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress transfer failure due to the fact that a recording material butts against an intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer belt 14 is stretched by a first roll 41 provided on the downstream side of a transfer surface 45, a second roll 42 facing a secondary transfer roll 32 on the downstream side from the first roll 41 and a third roll 43 provided on the downstream side from the second roll 42 and the upstream side from the transfer surface 45. The first roll 41 is driven by first drive force F1 by a first drive motor 82 and the second roll 42 is driven by second drive force F2 larger than the first drive force F1 through a torque limiter 83 by a second drive motor 84. Thus, tension larger than that to the transfer surface 45, etc. is applied to a carrying-in surface 47 by which the sheet is carried in while butting against the intermediate transfer belt 14, so that the carrying-in surface 47 is hardly deformed when the sheet collides.
