PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of shortening the start-up time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an image forming section (6) having a plurality of image carriers (7) which can be heated by the operation of a heating source (28); a belt-like member (14) for transferring an individual toner image to a form from the image forming section on a transfer surface; an operating mechanism (40) for bringing the belt-like member into contact with at least one of the plurality of image carriers, while separating the belt-like member from the other image carriers; and a control means (32) for controlling the temperatures of the circumferential surfaces of the image carriers. The control means stops the driving of the belt-like member and drives the image carrier separated from the belt-like member by the operation of the operating member, while stopping the driving of the image carrier which is in contact with the belt-like member, when the heating source is operated.
