<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical compensation film, by which a uniform rubbing treatment is carried out on a base material to achieve less variance in the regulating force of an alignment layer. <P>SOLUTION: The layer of an alignment layer forming material is applied with a coating device 21A on a belt-like flexible web 26 and is subjected to the rubbing treatment by rotating a rubbing roller 72 to which a rubbing cloth is stuck. The rubbing treatment is carried out by controlling the number of revolution of the rubbing roller 72 to be a first number of revolution from starting the rubbing treatment for a predetermined time, and after the lapse of the predetermined time, to be a second number of revolution smaller than the first number of revolution so as to form the alignment layer. Then, a coating liquid containing a liquid crystal compound is applied to the web 26 with a coating device 21B to form a liquid crystal compound layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
