发明名称 Tile Product and Method and Apparatus for making same
摘要 1,169,794. Laminated tiles. FLINTKOTE CO. 30 Jan., 1967 [18 Feb., 1966], No. 4529/67. Heading B5N. Adhesive-coated floor-tiles or the like, each with a protective sheet over the adhesive, are produced by conveying a succession of tiles T, slightly spaced apart, along a straight line, moving a continuous web of adhesive-coated transfer material P, e.g. of paper, with the adhesive coating facing the tiles, laminating the web to the tiles by rollers, and severing the web between adjacent tiles. In one apparatus for doing this, tiles T are lowered one by one from a hopper 4 on to a conveyer 18. The tiles then pass to a roll 54, by which an agent for accelerating the curing of the adhesive, e.g. acetic acid, is applied, e.g. by a felt pad covering a hole in the roller, the roller being hollow and containing the agent. This is applied, e.g. in the form of a cross, subsequently to set some of the adhesive carried by the web P quickly and prevent sliding of the web relative to the tiles. The web P is drawn from roll 72 around roller 76 to adhesive-applying roll 78, which has axially extending grooves over most of its width, but has a portion without these. Thus the web is coated with a pattern of adhesive, doctor blade 94 wiping the roll clean where there are no grooves. The web and tiles then pass beneath laminating roll 110 to severing rolls at 12 and to stacking means 14. Gearing is described so that the bands on the web without adhesive correspond to the spaces between tiles, and so that the severing rolls cut midway between tiles. Preferably, the adhesivecoated web P is thinner and wider than tiles T, but each band of adhesive is narrower than the width of each tile, so that the adhesive interlayer does not extend to the sides of the tile. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 25 (not shown), the web is narrower than the tiles and is coated with dry adhesive, having a release surface on its back side, and prior to reaching the laminating roll bands of adhesive are removed from it by pairs of knives which penetrate the adhesive but not the backing web, the web then passing around a roller having lobes and contacting a paper having greater affinity for the adhesive than the web. This roller is driven by a Geneva mechanism so that the lobes correspond to the severed bands of adhesive which are removed due to the pressure of the lobes. The tiles may be made of vinyl, vinyl asbestos, asphalt asbestos, rubber or wood and the web is preferably paper coated with release material, e.g. silicone, but may be polyethylene terephthalate, polytetrafluoroethylene or polyethylene.
