<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for controlling an automatic transmission for setting the shift range in a more proper range even if malfunction is caused in any one of a plurality of shift range detecting devices. <P>SOLUTION: This device for controlling an automatic transmission has a shift range setting means 11 for setting shift range of the automatic transmission 6 based on detection signals from a plurality of shift range detecting sensors 2A and 2B for detecting a shift range selected by a driver from a plurality of shift ranges of the automatic transmission 6 and a travelling condition detecting means 7 for detecting travelling condition of a vehicle. The shift range setting means 11 is structured to set the shift range in a shift range corresponding to the detection signal when the detection signals from the sensors are the same, and also to set the shift range to a traveling range in the case wherein the vehicle is travelling and at least one of the detection signal among the detection signals from the sensors is not inputted and wherein the inputted detection signal is the travelling range. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
