摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a wavelength selective polarization conversion element which produces a plurality of light components different in polarization direction and wavelength region from unpolarized light by a compact configuration while suppressing the lowering of light use efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The wavelength selective polarization conversion element 106 has: a plurality of polarization splitting planes 13 each of which splits incident light into two polarized light components having mutually different polarization directions; a plurality of phase plates 3 each of which makes the polarization direction of one of two polarized light components from each polarization splitting plane coincide with that of the other; and dichroic planes 23 which are arranged on light incidence sides of the plurality of polarization splitting planes or between the plurality of polarization splitting planes and the plurality of phase plates, and each of which splits incident light into mutually different two wavelength-region components. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
