PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing high purity hydrogen chloride in which organic materials are removed and which can be used sufficiently as raw material hydrogen chloride gas in a hydrochloric acid oxidation process from hydrogen chloride containing an organic compound having -50°C to 120°C boiling point under atmospheric pressure. SOLUTION: The method of producing hydrogen chloride is provided with a step for distilling hydrochloric acid water containing the organic compound having -50°C to 120°C boiling point under atmospheric pressure and 25 to 37 mass% hydrogen chloride concentration or diffusing the organic material using an inert gas to obtain a first distillate gas with a first hydrochloric acid water as a residue, a step for distilling the first hydrochloric acid water to obtain a second distillate gas mainly containing hydrogen chloride with a second hydrochloric acid water as a residue and a step for distilling the second hydrochloric acid water with the first distillate gas to obtain a third distillate gas containing the organic compound and water with third hydrochloric acid water having higher hydrogen chloride concentration than that of the second hydrochloric acid water.
