PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of slits in a chucking collet to be used for fixing a workpiece in a lathe, etc. SOLUTION: The structure of the slits in the chucking collet is formed as follows. The chucking collet has tapered surfaces 9, 36 on the circumferential surface on the end side so as to become guide surfaces for expanding and contracting the diameters of workpiece gripping portions 4, 32 on the end side, and has mounting portions 2, 34 on the base end portion so as to be mounted on a machine tool. A plurality of slits 7, 38 are provided on the workpiece gripping portions 4, 32 from the center outward so as to allow the expanding and contracting action of the diameters of the workpiece gripping portions 4, 32.
