1,170,080. Blow-moulding. J. H. STROOP. 7 Dec., 1966 [17 Dec., 1965], No. 54867/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B8] In apparatus in which sheets of material are blow moulded to form containers, pairs of mould halves are mounted for horizontal slidable movement towards and away from each other on a vertically reciprocable platen. In the embodiment shown, four pairs of mould halves such as 54, 55 are mounted side by side on the platen 30 which reciprocates in channels 21 under the action of crank mechanism 34. During upward movement of the platen, cam followers 58, 59 on the mould halves, follow the outside profile of cams 22, 23 respectively to separate the mould halves which slide along pins 65, and during downward movement of the platen the followers engage the inner profiles of the cams to close up the moulds. Sheeting of plastics or metal foil or a combination of the two drawn from reels 70, 71 is fed over heated drums 74, 75 into the moulds on each side of a tube 78 having concentric passages (79), (80), Fig. 5 (not shown). Air, blown through the outer passage (80), forces the sheets against the moulds and causes them to seal together to form the container. Upon reaching the bottom of the cams, the moulds separate and the tube is drawn out of the container. When the mould halves have risen and clamped over the sheeting to form the next container cutters (87) associated with heaters (85), Fig. 4, 6 respectively (not shown), carried in the bottom of the moulds, sever the formed container which falls and is diverted by a member 86 to be grouped as shown. Containers so formed are shown in Fig. 13 having a tear tab 93 for forming an opening. A cap (96), Fig. 11 (not shown), placed over the opening may affect a re-closure.
