The invention concerns an interlocking building block (10) having a projection (12) on a first side (14) thereof and a complementally interlocking recess (26) on an opposite second side (24) thereof. The projection (12) forms at least one upstanding cruciform shape, wherein at least one edge region of the block includes a recess which, when the block is interlocked with an adjacent similar block, forms an exposed groove (56) at the interface between the edge regions of the adjacent blocks. In this way, when a structure such as a wall is formed from the building blocks, the exposed grooves formed at the interface between the edge regions of adjacent blocks can be filled with a cementitious, fibrous material for absorbing relative movement between the adjacent blocks. |
