<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject carrier capable of smoothly accelerating growth of microorganisms on the surface and inside, allowing them to quickly exhibit their activity and useful for water treatment by including, e.g. inorganic or organic material which contains an adsorptive material and a material promoting physiological activity of the microorganisms. SOLUTION: This carrier is composed of (A) an adsorptive material of at least one of the materials selected from the group consisting of natural ceramic, synthetic ceramic, activated carbon and silicate, containing a metallic ash component other than that of silicon, silicon oxide or silicate, and having neutral or alkaline activated carbon on the surface, and (B) an inorganic, organic or inorganic/organic composite material containing a material which is composed of at least one of the materials selected from the group consisting of sparingly water-soluble alkaline (or alkaline-earth) metallic compound, copper (or its compound), zinc (or its compound) and transition metal (or its compound), and can promote physiological activity of microorganisms. It is preferable to prepare the carrier by including microorganisms while it is being prepared or immobilizing microorganisms therein after it is prepared.</p> |
