The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for providing a board game service in a mobile terminal. More particularly, the present invention provides an apparatus and a method for providing a board game service in a mobile terminal, the apparatus comprising: a display unit for displaying a game in progress; a detection unit for recognizing a piece and a game board on which the piece moves, and for detecting the position of the piece having moved on the game board; a memory for storing a game program and a game algorithm for the board game service; and a control unit for checking the position of the moved piece by controlling the detection unit according to the game program stored in the memory, creating game progress information depending on the position of the moved piece, and displaying, through the display unit, game results to which the game progress information is applied.
