The device (1) has a lighting unit (3) i.e. organic LED, for producing electromagnetic radiation (2) in a visible spectral region, and a radiation exhaust port (4) with a varying optical transmission and/or reflection factor. The radiation exhaust port exhibits a homogeneous/different reflection and/or transmission factor over an entire surface of the exhaust port. The exhaust port is fitted into an outer contour of a motor vehicle body, where the exhaust port is selectively switched between the homogeneous and different reflection/transmission characteristics in a transparent manner.
