<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a heat storage material capable of solving problems in a regenerative heat exchanger of a Stirling engine having many problems badly affecting heat efficiency and output with respect to heat recovering capacity, heat conduction loss, flow resistance, void ratio and the like, and a problem on degradation of efficiency in a refrigerating machine, a heat pump and the like applying a Stirling cycle and also using the regenerative heat exchanger. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Wires 11 having rhombic, hexagonal, or circular section and the like are connected by connecting joints 12 or spacer lands 14 to have a structure with an interlayer clearance 16 even when the wires are arranged and stacked at inter-strandwires intervals 15 to allow a working gas to flow, thus an air-permeable heat storage plate 10 composed of a tabular body is manufactured. The regenerative heat exchanger of high performance can be manufactured by using this air-permeable heat storage plate 10 as the heat storage material to take the place of a metallic mesh used in the present regenerative heat exchanger.
