<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor capable of safely braking the movement of footsteps with an auxiliary braking device in the case wherein a driving chain is broken or the moving speed of the footsteps exceeds a speed to be braked. Ž<P>SOLUTION: As an auxiliary braking device for passenger conveyor, a first auxiliary braking device and a second auxiliary braking device are provided. The first auxiliary braking device and the second auxiliary braking device are singly driven, simultaneously driven or driven with a time difference if necessary so as to safely brake the movement of footsteps.
