In order to make manual compensating adjustments to the setting of a room thermostat which has an element directly affected by one or more room heaters as well as by the temperature inside the room, at least two concentric scale knobs 3, 6 are provided, fixed and relatively rotatable respectively to the thermostat spindle 2 and each having a temperature scale and index mark 11, 12 and 9, 10, the scale on knob 3 being calibrated empirically so that by setting it to indicate the external environmental temperature, a rotation of the spindle 2 is superimposed on its setting by the knob 6 to a desired internal room temperature to compensate for the direct effect on the sensing element of the room heaters in so far as that effect is dependent on the external temperature. As shown, the scale 11 and index mark 12 are applied to the knob 3 and a third knob 5 and the scale 9 and index mark 10 are applied to the knob 6 and a cover 1. A frictional coupling between the three knobs is produced by springs 7, 8 (between knobs 5 and 6 and between knob 6 and a disc on the spindle 2) maintaining engagement between conical surfaces and readily released by depressing the knob 6 or knobs 5, 6 lowest on the spindle 2.</p> |
