PURPOSE: A rotary engine is provided to reduce friction between an engine body and a piston by performing a compression stroke separately in a compressor. CONSTITUTION: A rotary engine comprises a compressor(10), an engine body(20), a piston(30), an intake channel(26), an exhaust channel, a power chamber dividing unit, and an igniter. The piston rotates around a rotating shaft by the explosion pressure of combustion gas within the power chamber. The intake channel is formed in the engine body and the piston to let the air compressed by the compressor flow in. The exhaust channel is formed in the engine body or the piston to discharge exhaust gas. The power chamber dividing unit divides the power chamber to perform a suction stroke, an explosion/combustion stroke, and an exhaust stroke are performed therein. The igniter is provided close to the intake channel to ignite the compressed air.
