A heat exchanger intended particularly for generating steam or for heating water by means of hot waste gases, comprises a plurality of heat transfer units 1 mounted in parallel with each other in a casing 9, each of those units being assembled from two parallel flat plates united along their edges by edge strips 3 and held apart at a fixed distance by stay bolts (4, Fig. 5). A first fluid medium (e.g. water) is fed to the units through one or several feed pipes 5 and discharged from the units through one or several discharge pipes 7. The second fluid medium (e.g. hot gases) flows over the units 1 and over surface-increasing pin-fin elements 8 disposed in a triangular pitch pattern on the outside of said units. The casing 9 is provided at its ends with covers (15, Fig. 2) which can be opened and through which individual units 1 can be inserted and removed. |
