[Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A traction-device comprises a series of groundengaging shoes 6 carried by rings 7a, 7i arranged at the sides of the tyre 5 and movable into an eccentric (operative) position relative to the wheel, or into concentric (inoperative) position to permit the tyre to engage the road directly through a gap obtained by removal of a sectorpiece S from the device. In the operative position, driving-lugs 16 on the ring 7a engage lugs 17 on a ring 15 secured to the wheel in the lower run of the latter. For adjusting the position of the device, a ring 9 on the vehicle framing R is fitted with rollers 12, 13 tracking the ring 7i. The lower roller 13 is carried by a rocker-arm 11 operated, through the rod 11a, from the driver's seat.</p> |
