Ink jet inks comprise a modified pigment comprising a pigment having attached organic groups of optionally substituted 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acids and/or their salts. An independent claim is included for a process for improving bleeding control of ink jet inks, comprising modifying a pigment in the ink jet ink by attaching one or more organic groups of the optionally substituted 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acids and/or their salts.
