PURPOSE: A paper sheet handling apparatus and a method thereof are provided to reduce a waiting time by receiving a folded bill. CONSTITUTION: A first sensor(401) detects thickness of a paper sheet. A second sensor(405,406) obtains an image of a surface and a shape of the paper sheet. A discriminating part determines a direction and a folding position of the paper sheet through information obtained by the first sensor and the second sensor. A control part controls a paper sheet handing apparatus in order to receive the paper sheet.
