A battery plate structure (Fig. 3) comprises a grid of non-conductive material having a border 12 within which a plurality of grid wires 16 extend to provide a plurality of openings 18 and has a slot 20 therein defined by border boundaries 22 and body boundaries 24 for receiving a conductive terminal member 26 of deformable material, which member has a base portion 28 which underlies grid 10 and an interlocking portion 30, both of which portions are deformed, e.g. by rolling, pressing or stacking to cause the terminal material to interlock with, by flowing about, the boundaries 24 of slot 20. In Fig. 2 the product of deformation is indicated at 36 while the original terminal form 26 is shown in phantom lines. The interlocking portion may be bifurcated with two outwardly flared branches 34. The base may be a mirror image of an interlocking portion which is forklike, or the terminal may be an upstanding member which has been sectioned into a plurality of spaced leaves, or the interlocking member may comprise an upstanding rib or terrace on a base. The grid is preferably made of a high-strength, non-porous acidresistant moulded plastics material, e.g. polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene or polypropylene. |
