A transfer device (1) for transferring people and/or personal equipment from a first location to a second location at sea, the transfer device having means for coupling (2) it to a lifting device and comprising an outer structure in the form of a cage (3) defining an inner space comprising seating elements (6) disposed on the device's base (4) radially around its centre. The device also comprises shock absorbing means (23) situated on the sides of the outer structure facing each of the seating elements to protect passengers from frontal impacts. In a preferred embodiment, the seating elements are asymmetric to direct the seated persons to a preferential direction for exiting the transfer device thereby reducing the time to egress and contributing to safety. |
