PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet that is positioned with high accuracy when attaching the permanent magnet inside a motor frame of a square DC motor. SOLUTION: The permanent magnet 1 for the DC motor has a prescribed thickness. The permanent magnet 1 is closely adhered to the inside of the motor frame having a cylindrical part of a shape which is formed by inwardly crushing corners while leaving part of each side of a polygon in a cross section. The permanent magnet 1 is also formed such that thicknesses of the corners 3a, 3b of the permanent magnet 1 are thick, and the thickness of a connecting part of the corners 3a, 3b is thin. An axially-protruding protrusion 6 is integrally formed at the corner 3a of the end face 9 at one end side of the permanent magnet 1, and a recess 7 is formed at the end face of the protrusion 6.
