PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion amount control method, optimum for the interior temperature control of a heater. SOLUTION: A combustion control means controls the combustion amount of a burner 2 by controlling a pump 3 and a blower 4 for combustion based on signals of an interior temperature detecting means 9 and a temperature setting means 10. Combustion amount control stages N1-N5 of two or more stages are provided as a combustion amount of the burner 2, and changes in combustion amount at the combustion amount control stages N1-N5 are performed at combustion amount change points P. At the combustion amount change point P where the interior temperature RT of the interior temperature detecting means 9 is higher than the preset temperature ST of the temperature setting means 10, the combustion amount control stage N1-N5 is decremented by one, and at the combustion amount change point P where the interior temperature RT is lower than the preset temperature ST, the combustion amount control stage N1-N5 is incremented by one. The combustion amount change point P is fixed to the time when the interior temperature RT first coincides with the preset temperature ST of the temperature setting means 10 after the start of operation of the burner 2 and to the time when a preset time t elapses from the preceding combustion amount change point P.
