PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing carbon nanotubes where metal carbon nanotubes and semiconductive carbon nanotubes can be separated. SOLUTION: The carbon nanotubes are processed by using an aqueous solution containing a hydroxyl radical (HO-) at a room temperature to 100°C. The hydroxyl radical is obtained by the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H<SB>2</SB>O<SB>2</SB>) dissolved in, for example, the aqueous solution by 1-30 wt.%. At the decomposition, low valency metal ions such as Fe<SP>2+</SP>and the like are added in the aqueous solution as a catalyst and the concentration of the low valency metal ions is 0.0001-0.01 mol/L.
