An active accelerator pedal system is provided to reduce the driver's sight distraction and the danger of accidents remarkably and to improve the fuel consumption of a vehicle remarkably by controlling the pedal force of an accelerator pedal automatically. An active accelerator pedal system comprises an accelerator pedal, an actuator controlling the depth of the accelerator pedal automatically, and a control unit determining in which section the current fuel consumption efficiency of a controlled vehicle is on the basis of data on fuel consumption efficiency which divides the fuel consumption efficiency of a vehicle into a high-efficiency section, a middle-efficiency section and a low-efficiency section according to the driving information and driving condition of a controlled vehicle, and controlling the pedal force of an accelerator pedal according to the determined result and operating an actuator to make the lower-efficiency section have larger pedal force than the middle-efficiency section, and to make the middle-efficiency section have larger pedal force than the high-efficiency section.
