A media image detecting apparatus and method, and a medium handling system using the same are provided to determine a margin image and a medium image by using the histogram of the medium image, thereby extracting accurately the medium image. A medium image detecting apparatus comprises a contour detection part(15), a width location estimating unit(16), a lengthwise direction searcher, a reliability determining unit(20), and a slope compensating part(24). The reliability determining unit measures the reliability of a block which uses searched points as center pixels to determine the normality or damage of the searched points. The slope compensating part compensates the slope of the medium image by using the center pixels of the block which is determined as normality. |
