PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal polyester resin which by making a good dispersion form, suppresses bumping and the generation of foreign matter and exhibits excellent characterisitics at the time of the polymerization, at the time of the subsequent processing, and also at the time of the use. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystalline polyester resin, comprising acetylating a hydroxyl group of a monomer by using acetic anhydride and then carrying out the acetic acid-eliminating polycondensation, is characterized by adding the sodium hypophosphite dissolved in acetic acid at the stage of the completion of the acetylation of the hydroxyl group of the monomer.
