PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a poor tightening of a material to be bound with a wire. SOLUTION: This automatic binding machine 10 is equipped with a detecting means 70 which detects the operation of a tightening means 34 beyond the tightening completion position where a wire W comes into contact with the outer periphery of the material to be bound when the wire W is pulled in the pulling-out direction by the tightening means 34. The automatic binding machine 10 is constituted in such a manner that the wire W is fed into a guiding means 16 again by a feeding means 20 after the distal end section of the wire W has been cut by a cutting means 42 at the time of the detection by the detecting means 70.
