PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of abnormality diagnosis by comparison of outputs of two position sensors by enabling distinction between the shift of an output characteristic by variation in mounting positions of the position sensors and occurrence of the output difference by sensor abnormality. SOLUTION: This position detector has the first position sensor and the second position sensor for detecting the position of the same object, respectively. Reference position learning of determining the respective outputs of the first position sensor and the second position sensor at the reference position of the object is undergone, then outputs of respective sensors corrected based on the output at the reference position are compared with each other, and occurrence of abnormality in the position sensors is determined when the both have deviations of a predetermined value or more and its state continues for a predetermined time or longer.
