PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an optical pulse tester capable of improving operation efficiency of measuring by return light and measuring by using visible light, while suppressing the generation of communication failures. SOLUTION: Such an optical pulse tester is improved that pulse light of invisible light is emitted to a measurement optical fiber and return light of this pulse light is received by a light receiving part for measuring the measurement optical fiber, and visible light for visual observation of faults of the measurement optical fiber is emitted to the measurement optical fiber. This device comprises an incidence/emission port for emitting invisible light and visible light to the measurement optical fiber; and an output power determining part for determining existence of active light of the measurement optical fiber by optical power of the light receiving part which receives the incident light through the incidence/emission port, in a state where a pulse light of invisible light is not emitted.
