PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing an aromatic compound by catalytic reaction from a feedstock gas comprising hydrogen and a hydrocarbon and/or a carbon oxide. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aromatic compound comprises the following process: Hydrogen is reacted with a hydrocarbon and/or a carbon oxide in the presence of a catalyst to effect conversion into methane and water, and the resultant methane and, as necessary, another hydrocarbon are reacted to obtain the aromatic compound and hydrogen. In this process, the calorific value stemmed from the methanization is utilized as a heat source for the endothermic reaction in the aromatization. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
