The invention relates to a method for processing a CO2-containing gaseous medium in order to reduce the CO2 content in said gaseous medium, wherein said method is carried out in a cyclic manner where: (e1) the gaseous medium is contacted with carbene, whereby a carbene and CO2 adduct is formed; the carbene and CO2 adduct thus obtained is submitted to a thermal processing, whereby the CO2 is released and the carbene is regenerated; and (e3) the carbene regenerated during step (2) is recycled as a CO2 extractant in step (e1). The invention also relates to certain specific carbene and CO2 adducts that can be used in this context.
