PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photography device which performs focusing with little time lag when a photograph is taken from a live view display state, and also to provide a control method of the photography device. SOLUTION: When a continuous AF(C-AF) mode is set in menu set operation (#35), a focusing operation is performed by contrast AF control (#61) each time a predetermined time clocked by a timer elapses (#57→Yes) under a state where a half-push operation of a release button 21 is not performed (#53→No) at the start of a live view display operation (#51), and the focusing operation by contrast AF is performed continuously (#105) at an interval shorter than a predetermined time when the half-push operation of the release button 21 is performed (#53→Yes).
