PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device having a focus detecting function with reduced focusing time without using an optical path dividing means. SOLUTION: The imaging device to which a photographic lens 1 can be installed comprises an image pickup device 3, and the image pickup device 3 includes a plurality of two-dimensionally aligned pixels and an on-chip lens 4 corresponding to each pixel. Each pixel has at least two pixel groups A and B disposed discretely, and the on-chip lens 4 is configured so that the respective pixel groups A and B receive luminous fluxes from different areas of the photographic lens 1. The focusing quantity of the photographic lens 1 can be calculated by comparing the outputs from the two pixel groups A and B, and image formation can be performed based on the entire pixel information.
