INSTRUMENT PANEL PERIPHERY STRUCTURE FOR AUTOMOBILE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument panel periphery structure for an automobile capable of sufficiently ensuring a forward movement amount of a steering column while increasing knee-receiving load in the instrument panel periphery structure for the automobile constituted such that a steering column can be moved to a front side of the vehicle in application of impact load and a column cover is arranged so as to be superposed on a meter unit in a view in a movement direction of the steering column. SOLUTION: The instrument panel periphery structure for the automobile is provided with a knee protector 60 supported on a vehicle body side and absorbing impact energy by being upwardly projected/deformed when the knee of the occupant is abutted by the impact load below the meter unit 2. The knee protector 60 is constituted so as to push up the meter unit 2 by projection deformation such that interference of the column cover 5 and the meter unit 2 in forward movement of the column cover 5 is reduced.
